Liposuction Revision

Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Los Angeles and Lancaster, CA or by virtual appointment.

Liposuction revision is a procedure performed after a prior liposuction surgery to smooth irregular contours, fill depressions, and address other aesthetic concerns. (1) Because liposuction revision works with tissues and structures that have previously been manipulated, this type of procedure requires great surgical expertise, utmost precision, and ideally a specialization in liposuction.

About Liposuction Revision

Patients initially undergo liposuction to define their silhouette, often in areas like the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, back, and more. Unfortunately, if a surgeon’s techniques are not optimal or if they do not have the experience to create stunning, long-lasting results, a patient may be disappointed by their results. Or, in some cases, if a patient’s weight fluctuates after their initial procedure, their results may change in a way that is unsatisfactory to them. Lingering fat deposits can cause aesthetic concerns (1)—this is a concern Dr. Satey sees often in his revision patients. Areas surrounding the treated zone can appear uneven or bulge over time. This is why he highly recommends a 360-degree approach to achieve balanced, natural proportions from every angle.

To address these issues and provide his patients with results they can love once and for all, Dr. Satey uses a careful approach to re-sculpt the treated areas and fill divots when necessary. He can incorporate fat transfer techniques as well, using the extracted fat from other areas to add volume to the areas that need it.

Benefits At-A-Glance

Benefits of undergoing liposuction revision include, but are not limited to:

  • Smoother contours
  • Enhanced confidence
  • Satisfaction with results
  • Reduced dimpling
  • More freedom to wear the clothes and swimsuits you want to

Candidates

If you have undergone liposuction revision previously and are not happy with your results, you may be eligible for liposuction revision. All patients must be:

  • In good general health
  • Able to maintain realistic expectations
  • At a stable, maintainable weight
  • Free of underlying conditions that could impact their procedure

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any active infections, your treatment may need to be delayed until a later date.

Dr. Satey will finalize your candidacy at a personal consultation at his office.

Personal Consultation

At your personal consultation with Dr. Satey, he will take a look at your areas of concern and ask you about your previous surgeries and medical history. He will also ask you about your ultimate goals regarding your results. This will give him a better understanding of the techniques he can use to give you the best possible results.

Preparation

Once you have decided to proceed with liposuction revision, you can start to prepare for your procedure. If you are undergoing liposuction revision, you likely remember what it was like to prepare for your first procedure. In any case, Dr. Satey will walk you through what steps you should take to get ready for your appointment day. While these steps may vary depending on the case, considerations often include:

  • Cease certain blood-thinning medications
  • Refrain from smoking or using nicotine and tobacco in any form
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Schedule time off from work and away from your other responsibilities
  • Arrange transportation home after your procedure

Procedure

To perform liposuction revision, Dr. Satey primarily uses VASER-assisted liposuction to remove stubborn or bulging fat and define key areas. As one of only six VASER surgical educators, Dr. Satey is extremely experienced in this procedure and has a unique, nuanced understanding of the technology.

VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. This tool allows surgeons to remove excess fat with advanced ultrasonic technology. (2) To perform VASER-assisted liposuction, Dr. Satey will make a small incision—typically following existing incision lines—to insert the VASER cannula. This cannula emits ultrasound waves, which emulsify fat cells before they are removed via gentle suction. VASER-assisted liposuction is often considered the gold standard for liposuction, as it allows for enhanced precision and safety. It also heightens fat cell survival in the event that the extracted fat will be used for a transfer.

To avoid future contour irregularities, Dr. Satey recommends a 360 approach, addressing multiple areas with liposuction to maintain smoothness in the event of subsequent weight gain.

After removing the targeted fat and sculpting areas of concern, Dr. Satey will place a protective garment over the treatment area. The procedure typically takes anywhere from one to four hours. Procedure times can vary.

Recovery

During your recovery from liposuction revision, you can expect some swelling and bruising. VASER-assisted liposuction is often associated with a quicker recovery time thanks to its efficient technology. (2) Initially, you should avoid strenuous activities but take gentle walks for optimal circulation. You will attend follow-up appointments with Dr. Satey during your recovery so that he can evaluate your healing progress. Most patients are able to return to work after one to two weeks, though this depends on the physical demands of the job. Dr. Satey will let you know when it is appropriate to resume exercise and other more strenuous activities.

Results

After your liposuction revision procedure, you will notice improved contours that you can finally be happy about. Dr. Satey’s patients regularly report feeling more confident with their results, often feeling empowered to wear revealing or tight-fitting clothing and swimsuits again.

Dr. Satey’s results are designed to be long-lasting, but please keep in mind that further weight fluctuations could alter your results. You should do your best to maintain a stable weight and lead a healthy lifestyle.

FAQ

Can I undergo liposuction revision before I’ve finished healing from my first liposuction procedure?

No, you should wait until you are fully healed from your first procedure to decide whether you want to pursue revision. Swelling and other recovery factors may be preventing you from seeing your final results.

How long does liposuction revision take?

This depends on the complexity of your procedure. Most patients have a 1–4 hour-long procedure.

Will my liposuction revision make new scars?

Whenever possible, Dr. Satey will reuse the previous incision sites to avoid making scars in new areas. He always makes incisions as discreetly as possible so that his patients can feel confident about showing off their results.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction revision?

If you are generally healthy, fully healed from previous procedures, have realistic expectations, and are unhappy with previous liposuction results, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. Dr. Satey will ultimately decide during a personal consultation whether you are eligible.

Can liposuction revision fix uneven or lumpy results from my previous procedure?

Yes, liposuction revision is often performed to improve contour irregularities, uneven fat removal, or areas of lumpiness left after a previous procedure. During your personal consultation, Dr. Satey will evaluate your concerns and recommend the most effective approach based on your anatomy and treatment goals.
