About After Weight Loss Tummy Tucks
A tummy tuck is a popular procedure that effectively removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen and tightens underlying muscles. (1) After significant weight loss, whether it’s through dieting/exercising, bariatric surgery, or GLP-1 medications, many patients struggle with muscle separation (diastasis recti) and apron-like skin and stubborn fat lingering in the midsection. (2) Tummy tucks address these concerns; they have become a common and effective follow-up procedure for post-weight-loss patients. After the hard work of losing weight, a tummy tuck allows these patients to achieve the toned, flat, and contoured abdomen they have been working toward.
Benefits At-A-Glance
A post-weight-loss tummy tuck brings several transformative benefits. With Dr. Satey’s expertise, patients see improvements through:
- Increased mobility
- Boosted motivation to maintain a healthy lifestyle
- A sense of completion after achieving their goals
- Enhanced contours
- Repaired abdominal muscles
- Flatter, more toned-looking torso
- Reduced skin irritation
- Improved confidence
Candidates
If you have successfully lost weight but now struggle with sagging and loose skin around your midsection, stubborn pockets of fat, or muscle separation, you may be an ideal candidate for a tummy tuck. You should be in relatively good health, free of any underlying medical conditions that may impair healing. Dr. Satey requires that his patients be non-smokers (or are willing to quit for an extended period) and have maintained a stable weight for at least six months.
If applicable, you should be off GLP-1 medications at least two weeks before your procedure, as they can pose risks under anesthesia.
Personal Consultation
During your personal consultation, Dr. Satey will evaluate your medical history and discuss your treatment goals. He will also ask about your weight loss journey, examine how it affected your figure, and inquire about your current medication or supplement regimens. This allows Dr. Satey to determine the best approach for your circumstances.
If you are ready to cross the finish line in your weight loss journey, contact us online or call us directly at (424) 500-3320 to schedule a consultation today!

Preparation
Effectively preparing for your tummy tuck ensures a smooth, safe procedure with optimal results. Dr. Satey advises his patients to:
- Pause use of anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications/supplements
- Avoid alcohol consumption
- Cease nicotine and tobacco use
- Maintain a stable weight for at least six months
- Arrange transportation home and post-surgical assistance if necessary
Procedure
Dr. Satey will begin your tummy tuck by carefully marking out the treatment areas with a skin-safe marker and cleansing/sterilizing the skin. You will receive the appropriate anesthesia to ensure comfort.
Dr. Satey will then make a low-set incision from hip to hip, above the pubic area. This placement provides ample access to underlying abdominal structures while ensuring that any scarring can be easily covered by clothing. He will carefully lift the skin and repair separated abdominal muscles. He will also remove loose skin and excess fat to create a slimmer midsection. As one of only six VASER educators, Dr. Satey is a liposuction expert—he can use liposuction to strategically remove stubborn fat from your abdomen if it’s still present after weight loss.
Dr. Satey can also reposition your belly button to suit the new look of your abdomen. The duration of this procedure is typically two to five hours, but patient experiences may vary.
Recovery
After a tummy tuck, it is normal to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Prescribed medications or approved over-the-counter medications may help alleviate these effects.
During your first week of recovery, Dr. Satey advises that you focus on resting, keeping your torso elevated to promote good circulation. This will encourage blood circulation and minimize tension for your incision. You must also wear a compression garment to protect your new contours and reduce swelling.
Carefully standing and gently walking around your house may encourage healthy blood flow, but you must avoid any heavy lifting and strenuous activities. You can shower after the third day, but you must keep the incision sites dry afterward. During your second week of recovery, you may slightly increase your movement, but you should continue to avoid heavy lifting and intense exercise until Dr. Satey approves.
Dr. Satey will place drains during your procedure to help fluid escape. He will remove these during your recovery.
Results
As swelling continues to dissipate over the following months, your new contours will become more noticeable. You will likely feel more confident, especially in fitted clothing and swimwear. A post-weight-loss tummy tuck produces a significantly flatter and firmer abdomen. You may also see improvements in posture and mobility, and potentially increased motivation to exercise regularly and practice healthy habits.
Corresponding Procedures
Post-weight-loss, many patients will struggle with excess skin and stubborn fat pockets in other areas beyond the abdomen. In conjunction with a tummy tuck, many patients will enhance their results through:
Liposuction
Liposuction is a procedure that removes unwanted fat from specific areas of the body to improve proportion and balance. Dr. Satey often focuses on liposculpting, which is a specific form of liposuction that, instead of just removing fat, shapes and sculpts in alignment with each patient’s anatomy. Pairing this procedure with a tummy tuck removes excess skin, repairs abdominal muscles, and enhances an hourglass silhouette.
Arm Lift
An arm lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes the underarm region from the armpit to the elbow by removing excess fat and sagging skin. Pairing this procedure with a tummy tuck contours your overall figure and creates a proportional transformation.
Lateral Thigh Lift
A lateral thigh lift contours and tightens the loose skin around your thigh area by removing excess skin and fat after significant weight loss, aging, or genetics. Combining a thigh lift with a tummy tuck improves a balanced body contour and slimmer lower body appearance.
